Xi'an to Chengdu

Bullet Train from Xian to Chengdu & Afternoon Tour of Kuanzhai Alley

Leave the ancient city of Xian and travel by 4-hour Bullet Train to Chengdu.

Travel over 600km in approximately 4hrs by modern train. If you travel during spring (Mar-Apr), you may have the chance to see the breathtaking spring colours including the golden rapeseed flowers to the sea of pink from the cherry blossoms and the rich red of the plum blossoms. During autumn (Sep-Oct), the scenery is equally beautiful as you may see the native ginkgo trees with fan-shaped leaves turn a vibrant shade of yellow, which offers a stunning contrast to the clear blue sky and green Sichuan valleys.

Please ensure you pack a day bag as your luggage will not be easily accessible from your second-class seat. Food and beverages can be purchased in the dedicated dining cart or purchased on a food trolley. Alternatively, you may wish to pre-purchase snacks from Xian Railway Station before boarding the train.

Upon arrival in Chengdu, immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant culture and culinary delights with an exciting three-night stay.

Pace

This Small Group tour maintains a moderate pace, encompassing various prefectures across China, which may entail early starts and lengthy travel days. It’s important to note that many renowned attractions in China can be crowded and bustling, so please stay with your designated Tour Leader/Guide(s) for guidance and assistance.

Fitness

A medium level of fitness is required. You are required to move about unassisted, including boarding and alighting vehicles and other forms of transportation, walking up and down flights of stairs, and navigating uneven terrain and footpaths.

Tipping in China

Tipping in China is a firm and customary element of the tourism industry and is therefore strongly recommended. The expected tipping amount is $12 AUD or 60 RMB per person per day – paid locally to your local English-speaking Tour Leader/Guide per destination/region.

Visa requirement for China

A visa for China is required for Australian passport holders visiting China for the purpose of short-term tourism, however, this policy is subject to change without notice. A single-entry fee for an Australian Passport Holder starts from 95AUD per person. Along with a valid passport, you must provide all documentation required by the China Visa Application Service Centre including printed visa application form, digital and printed photo, photocopy of passport bio page and an itinerary with flight details. Group tour airport transfers are included providing you are arriving on the first and last day of the tour.

Chinese culture

Chinese culture tend to honour tradition, but they also embrace many parts of Western popular culture. Thanks in part to the lasting influence of Confucianism, Chinese customs include a strong sense of family, a deep respect for hierarchy, and an appreciation for harmony over conflict.

Baggage

Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one bag not exceeding 20kg on tour, superseding any other baggage allowance. One of the reasons is due to the Bullet Train limited luggage space – you must store your luggage in the designated luggage racks onboard the train. Excess baggage is not permitted. You are strongly encouraged to pack lightly.

Group size

You will meet like-minded travellers on tour and may even make lifelong friends. This holiday will proceed with a smaller group size based on a minimum 10 passengers and a maximum group size of approximately 24 passengers. If the tour does not operate, you will be offered a credit.

*Culturally Enriching Cruises are sailings that immerse guests into the local culture of a specific country or region. On these cruises, the vast majority of guests may be from that region, speaking the native language. In addition, guests will experience the local flavor & flare during their time onboard. Some examples are:

  • The Windjammer and Main Dining Room will be inspired by the region’s local cuisine. All dining venues will still offer Western options to ensure we cater to all our guests.
  • Some specific Specialty restaurants will be tailored to the region for ships departing from China.  Of course, Spectrum will have some of Royal’s fan favorites onboard like Izumi, Sorrento’s, Chops Grille, Chef’s Table, Jamie’s Italian, Vintages, and the Windjammer Marketplace. Your toughest decision onboard might just be where to eat!
  • Production shows onboard ships departing from Mainland China will be core Royal Caribbean International shows which place heavy emphasis on music and dancing, as opposed to language. Language for activities, comedians will usually be in Mandarin when ships depart from Mainland China.  Guest entertainer’s language will vary.
  • U.S. Dollars will always be the currency onboard.
  • For Cruises departing from Mainland China, access to the Solarium and cost for selected activities might be different from other countries.
